is a series of porcelain teapots developed during a three-month residency in arita, japan, a region renowned for its porcelain tradition. the project starts from an archetypal japanese imari teapot, which is reinterpreted through distortion and intuitive sculptural interventions.



where traditional imari ware often tells stories through painted decoration, this series moves the narrative from the surface into the form itself. limb-like elements, subtle bodily references and expressive gestures give each teapot its own personality. some feel shy or introverted, others playful, bold or quietly rebellious. still teapots, but slowly becoming something else.


during the making process, materials do what materials do. they behave unexpectedly, technical things go wrong, and those accidents are deliberately embraced as part of the process. instead of trying to control every outcome, the unexpected is allowed to shape the final forms and push the work in new directions.


the series builds on the liquid shooting technique and material knowledge developed during an earlier residency at the european ceramic work centre (ekwc). all nine teapots start from the same basic form, but the process takes each one somewhere slightly different. together, they form a small family of objects with the same origin, but very different personalities.
